Green Your Party

April 21, 2009

With the Spring and Summer months come a plethora of parties and events to plan and attend.  Making sure that your party does not become environmentally costly is as easy as following some of the tips below.  (source: Monica Emerich).

1) Green your Invitations
A lot of paper can be saved by creating and sending invitations online rather than through direct mail.  Using an online service like Evites, or simply sending an email to guests is an easy and affordable way to save some trees.

2) Green your Party Favors and Supplies
Making sure that all of your party supplies, from napkins to decorations, are made from recycled paper can be an easy way to avoid being environmentally wasteful.

3) Carpool
If you have a number of guests coming from the same area, it might be a good idea to invest in renting a van or bus for transport guests to and from a specified location.  This is especially a good idea if there will be alcohol served at the party because then guests won’t have to worry about drinking and driving.

4) Serve Green Food
An easy way to be eco-friendly with your party is to create a green menu.  Using organic foods and making recipes that require local and fresh ingredients is the best way to go green with your menu.

5) Buy in Bulk
When it comes to buying supplies, try to buy a bulk supply of items to save yourself from using excessive amounts of packaging.

6) Rent
If you are going to use tents and tables for your party, the best idea to be eco-friendly is to rent these items rather than buying them.  Many party and rental stores offer good rates that makes renting these items cost-effective in addition to being eco-friendly.
