If you are a frequent gym-goer, you probably understand the importance of keeping healthy. Well, working out goes hand in hand with making eco-friendly life choices that will both help your personal health, as well as better the environment which will be beneficial for everyone. There are so many ways that you can alter your workout routine to cater to green living. Some of the things are quick fixes, and some are more long term, but all of them are simple and hold countless benefits. Some alterations that you can make to your traditional workout routine are:
Take it Outside — In today’s world, it is rare if we ever get a chance to step out of our office for some fresh air. A simple way to get your fresh air fix, while simultaneously creating a healthier environment is to take your workout outdoors. There are a number of ways that you can make your workout an outdoor activity—try walking or running around your neighborhood. If you don’t have a good path around your house, look into checking out the local trails in your area, which will not only offer you a good workout, but also give you a fresh new scenic view that simply can’t be had at a congested gym.
Reuse your Water Bottle — Having a plastic water bottle for your workouts instead of tossing ones out each time really do add it. With a plastic bottle, you will not only save money on buying new ones each time, but you will also not be causing waste in the environment. This is a simple thing that can really be extremely beneficial.
Have an Organic Snack — Next time you are powering up for your workout, try some organic granola bars or organic fruit as a boost instead of the traditional protein bars. You will get your energy and save the environment in the process.
Wear Organic Gear — Nowadays, you can find organic sports bras and running shorts at basically any major sports store. These items are made from all natural ingredients so they do not ruin the environment. This also gives you a great excuse to revamp your workout wardrobe!
Alternate your Machines — While most of us go straight to the treadmill when we hit the gym, there are so many other non-electronic ways to get in a good sweat. A few times a week, try using things that don’t require so much electricity, such as medicine balls and the classic squats that require just you!
Turn Off Electricity — Many times when we are at the gym, we are blasted with a ton of televisions in front of us, most of which are not being used. If there are televisions not being used, feel free to see about getting them shut off. Chances are, people will appreciate a moment without a screen staring back at them. So many large gyms have electricity running that is not being used and just wasting energy.
